I thought I’d give you a little laugh by sharing my ongoing saga with the Portuguese weather. Spoiler alert: it’s been wreaking absolute havoc on my skin and hair, and the struggle is real.

First off, let’s talk about the sun. It’s like the sun here has a personal vendetta against my face. I step outside for five minutes, and bam! My skin feels like it’s been on a 10-hour beach vacation without sunscreen. We’re talking red-hot dry skin that could rival the Sahara. I’ve started carrying moisturizer & SPF like it’s my lifeline.

And then there’s the wind. Ever seen those cartoons where someone gets electrocuted and their hair stands on end? That’s me, every time I step outside. One gust of wind and my hair transforms into a frizzy, dry mess that could pass for an avant-garde art installation. It’s like my hair is trying to communicate in Morse code using frizz.

But wait, there’s more! The humidity is also determined to join the party. It’s not content with just making me sweat like I’ve run a marathon; it has to go after my hair too. On humid days, my hair goes from dry and frizzy to limp and lifeless. It’s like it can’t make up its mind—should it be a broom or a wet mop?

Given these delightful challenges, I’ve had to develop a Portugal hair & skin survival routine:

Morning Routine

FACE

Wash: Aloe Herb Cleanser – Say hello to calm and balanced skin with this gentle, hydrating cleanser formulated specifically for sensitive skin types.

Moisturize: Herbal Facial Oil or Anti-Aging Serum – Hydrate and refresh your skin with these soothing tonics infused with potent herbs.

Lips: Antioxidant Lip Balm – Say goodbye to dry, chapped lips and hello to soft, supple smackers with this nourishing lip balm.

Sun Protection: Sun Love – Protect your skin from harmful UV rays while keeping it moisturized and glowing with this natural sunscreen. This sunscreen is super hydrating, absorbs well, (and perfect under your makeup if you wear it), giving you a soft glow and silky skin.

BODY

Palo Santo Body Butter – Indulge your skin in luxurious hydration with this rich, whipped body butter infused with the soothing aroma of palo santo. Applying this uber moisturizing body butter is one of my favorite parts of my morning ritual. It’s great to heal a Portuguese sun burn too! (for your body; don’t use on your face!)

HAIR

To reverse dry, brittle hair and hair loss incorporate a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals, especially biotin, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids; use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo and a nourishing conditioner to maintain moisture; avoid excessive heat styling and chemical treatments; massage your scalp regularly to boost circulation and promote hair growth.

Smoothing Hair Serum – I don’t know about you but my hair has gotten really dry and frizzy. Revitalize and nourish your locks with this lightweight serum that tames frizz and adds shine. It’s a nice, light and all-natural way to moisturize your hair for a smooth, healthy look. My latest hack is to use one of these heatless curling bands at night (in lieu of using hair dryers and traditional curling irons which dry out and damage the hair) and to apply a tiny bit of smoothing hair serum for optimum shine and smoothness.

Evening Routine

This powerful combination sets my face up for optimum glow and moisture. I combine 3 drops of the facial oil with the Hydrate or Revitalize elixirs as an intensely moisturizing, anti-aging skin combo and wake up with firmer, more youthful looking skin. In the morning, I often add the Brighten elixir to my morning serum.

Concentrated Boosting Elixirs – Treat your skin to a rejuvenating boost with these concentrated elixirs packed with potent botanical extracts.

Rejuvenating Facial Oil – Nourish and repair your skin while you sleep with this luxurious facial oil that hydrates and revitalizes.

These products are my personal favorites for combating dry skin during perimenopause and menopause, and I’m confident they’ll work wonders for you too!

Here are some trial sized options available you can start with too!

Remember, taking care of your hair and skin is essential, but if you have any concerns or specific skincare needs, don’t hesitate to reach out to a skincare specialist for personalized advice.

So there you have it, my ongoing battle with the Portuguese elements. If you have any tips or tricks to add to my arsenal, please share in the comments on the site! Or if you just want to commiserate about the weather, I’m here for that too.

Beat the heat, the sun, and the wind and stay fabulous!

Até à próxima!
